Good style means putting your best foot forward. This week, The Hatchet’s style team gave seven GW students’ shoe choices sole recognition for doing just that.
Simply add statement flats to elevate any simple outfit, like the colorful ones seen on sophomore Yassamine Ebadat and freshman Maddy Vericker. Available in a variety of price ranges, Ebadat snagged her bubblegum pink pair from Forever 21, while Vericker’s green patterned flats come from Calvin Klein.
Don’t let cloudy weather scare you out of your favorite strappy sandals. “It’s spring time!” sophomore Malaika Benjamin declared, wearing a gladiator-style pair. Their multipurpose potential can’t be ignored; Malaika wore hers to get messy in ceramics class, but sandals can relieve your high heels from duty for a night out when paired with a slinky dress.
Sperry topsiders hardly represent individual style these days but their cool comfort is often too good to pass up. Guys and girls should opt for unique colors to stand out from the crowd, like freshman Jared Horowitz does with his off-white pair.Velvet returns with a vengeance in men’s footwear this season, as junior Mohammed Al-Thaar proves in his red velvet moccasins. The fabric is delightfully smooth and surprisingly durable.
With a bright color like Mohammed’s slip-ons, they can also be great conversation starter. What more could a guy want from his shoes?
High top basketball sneakers bring casual swagger to any outfit. Sophomore James Williams’ crisp white Nikes are a step up from trainers meant only for exercise. Shoes like James’ allow for the same amount of comfort as trainers while letting him dress his age.
