Here are some things to look forward to this week:
- GW Amnesty International and the Iranian Cultural Society will host “Interrupted Lives,” a two-day exhibit beginning Tuesday in Kogan Plaza. The exhibit, which will also feature a movie screening Tuesday in the Jack Morton Auditorium, will profile Iranian students who have been imprisoned, tortured or killed under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s administration.
- The Quincy Mumford Band will be playing at Tonic Tuesday, featuring an opening set from freshman Nick Conforti.
- Catch opening night of 14th Grade’s tragi-comedy “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” at the Lisner Downstage Thursday. Tickets are $5; cash only.
- SXSW favorites The Smith Westerns are playing at the Black Cat Thursday, along with So Cow and The Cheniers. Tickets are $10.
And here’s some good news:
- Dcist reports that the National Zoo is holding an online contest to name its newest animal, a Giant Pacific Octopus. Participants can choose from four different names, ranging from the noble-sounding Octavius to the more nerdy Ceph (derived from the word cephalopod). Sadly, there is no write-in option. The zoo will announce the winning name April 7.
