Every week The Hatchet will post an excerpt from its own “Bucket List” – things our staff thinks every student at GW should accomplish in the four years before they graduate. See if you can also cross them all off your list.
With the end of spring break comes the end of the work-out rush. Returning to school means you no longer have to watch what you eat in order to fit into your teeny bathing suit and board shorts. Boost the end of break woes by enjoying one D.C.’s raved about food joints.
22. Eat a Manouch hot dog
Open Thursday through Saturday from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., Manouch only qualifies as a late night pit-stop. His on-campus location in front of CVS on twenty-first street also deems it a great place for a bedtime snack. There is typically a line of hungry people waiting to be served, but for the everything dog with chili-cheese on top, it might be worth it. Hot dogs are $3 after 12 a.m.
23. Visit Ben’s Chili Bowl
Located in the historical U Street Corridor, the restaurant is a relic in itself. Opened in 1958, when Eisenhower was president, Ben’s Chili Bowl has been offering milkshakes, hamburgers and, of course, Chili for decades. President Obama is known to frequent the establishment as well as many other celebrities whose pictures line the walls.
24. Take a bite out of a Jumbo Slice pizza
The eatery in Adams Morgan offers monster sized pizza slices for $5.50 a piece. Take you pick from a cheese or pepperoni slice that’s large enough to fill three paper plates. It might not qualify as the most delicious pizza you’ve ever had, but for a late-night craving, it does the job. If you want a slice to-go you have to pay extra – they will give you your own pizza box to take with you.
