GW men’s and women’s water polo coach Scott Reed was induced into the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame Friday night in a ceremony in North Kingstown, R.I. Reed, who is a native of Barrington, RI, began coaching the men’s water polo team at GW in 1999 after holding the same job for two years at Washington and Lee University, where he was also an assistant coach for the swim team. Reed began pulling double duty one year later when he became the head coach for the newly formed women’s water polo team in 2000.
Reed was previously honored in 2003 and 2007 as the Collegiate Water Polo Association’s coach of the year, the latter of which he earned after leading the men’s team to a third place finish at the 2007 national championship and helping the Colonials climb to 17th in the College Water Polo Association’s final rankings that year. Reed’s teams have made a combined nine appearances in the national championship tournament and have won a total of 229 games during Reed’s 11-year tenure in Foggy Bottom.
