Metro to simulate explosion, delays expected Saturday night

Metro will be simulating two explosions in the District this weekend in an effort to prepare themselves for emergency situations, a news release from Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority said.

The first simulation will be held 1 a.m. this Sunday morning, when an explosion will be simulated on a rail car in the tunnel between Rosslyn and Foggy Bottom stations.  Emergency personnel will be responding to the incident to find a scene representative of hundreds of injured passengers and multiple fatalities, the news release said.

From 11 p.m. to Metro closing at 3 a.m., Blue Line trains will share one track between the Foggy Bottom and Arlington Cemetery stations, and Orange Line trains will share one track between the Foggy Bottom and Court House stations. WMATA is advising riders to expect delays of up to 30 minutes between those times.

A second simulation is scheduled for Monday, March 29 at the RFK Stadium parking lot. This drill simulates an explosion on a Metrobus with multiple passengers injured, discovery of a second explosive found on a bus in a garage, and phone call stating that additional explosive devices have been placed on other buses, the release said.
