Former GW center Rob Diggs said Saturday night that he is leaving early next week to play professional basketball in Israel.
Diggs, who was at the Smith Center representing the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 men’s basketball teams as part of GW’s homecoming game promotion, said that he did not yet know the name of the team he would be playing for or what city in Israel he would be playing in, but the former Colonial did say that he hopes to parlay his performance in the final three months of the Israeli basketball season into a spot on a team next year. Diggs had previously hinted at his plans to play in Israel earlier this week on his Twitter account and said that he would post information about his situation in Israel as soon as he could.
Diggs, who was the Colonials’ leading scorer, rebounder and shot-blocker last season, played professionally for two weeks this past December in Holland for Matrixx Magix Nijmegen but was released by the Dutch squad after just four games in which he played a total of 36 minutes and scored just nine points.
