Tegan and Sara play Warner Theatre

This post was written by Hatchet Reporter Kyra Gembka.

Twins and indie darlings Tegan and Sara paid a visit to the Warner Theatre Wednesday night, entertaining a packed house with their smart, sassy take on pop-rock.

The duo played a mix of cuts from their latest album, 2009’s “Sainthood,” and older songs, and were accompanied by a near-flawless backing band. The chemistry between the sisters on stage is perhaps just a result of genetics, but the clear comfort they have with each other, along with their witty banter and dynamic stage presence, adds to their appeal, making each fan feel as though he or she was the third, musically adept sibling. “The Ocean,” their opening track, was met with a heartfelt sing-along from the audience; other crowd favorites included “You Wouldn’t Like Me,” the upbeat “Northshore” and “Hell,” the last two both from “Sainthood.”

A light show accompanied the performance, which added the appropriate flourish to many of their songs; a bright green laser panned the theater during “Alligator.” Tegan and Sara concluded the show with a five-song encore, to the delight of their dedicated fans. The extended set included songs such as “Back In Your Head” and “My Number,” as well as an acoustic version of “Feel It In My Bones,” which they produced in collaboration with DJ Tiesto. At the end of their final song “Living Room,” a track off their 2007 album “If It Was You,” the audience erupted in screams and applause.

Whether it be because of their distinct personalities, their talent or a combination of the two, Tegan and Sara managed to put on a solid live performance.
