Every week The Hatchet will post an excerpt from its own “Bucket List” – things our staff thinks every student at GW should accomplish in the four years before they graduate. See if you can also cross them all off your list.
The snow has finally stopped falling so this week’s Bucket list items are dedicated to touring D.C. beyond the confines of GW.
10. Visit Eastern Market
The Eastern Market flea market is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers numerous stalls of antiques, jewelry, other goods and food. The market is currently running on its twenty-sixth year and is located just behind Capitol Hill. It’s a fun experience for the eclectic shopper or if you just want to get out for the day.
11. Have dinner at Busboys & Poets
The fact that the venue is a combination of a restaurant, café, and bookstore is reason alone to visit this popular eatery located in the U Street Corridor. On certain nights you can come and revel in one of the poetry readings or book signings that are held in the location’s back room. If you are interested in a meal, the food is described as “comfort food at its best” and includes paninis and burgers. Come early because the restaurant does not take reservations and it fills up quickly.
12. Ride the Metro after midnight
They often say that strange things come out at night, and what better way to experience this than riding the Metro after midnight? Sure you might witness a drunk passenger or two but you might be surprised at what you see when the city slows down and everyone is either going out or coming in from a night out on the town.
