The National Weather Service has released a blizzard warning starting at 10 p.m. tonight and lasting until 10 p.m. tomorrow night, according to Alert D.C.
Blizzard warnings mean that “wind gusts will exceed 35 mph, snow is likely to be extremely heavy, and visibility will be reduced below 1/4 mile,” according to the alert. The warnings also mean that “falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely,” according to the National Weather Service. Those conditions can lead to whiteouts.
Travel conditions tonight across the region will be “extremely hazardous and life-threatening,” according to the National Weather Service. The agency recommends drivers stay off the roads to allow first responders and transportation agencies to travel.
Alert D.C. is also telling citizens to secure all loose objects on their properties and to remain indoors.
