Fashionistas of the Week

Fashionistas of the Week is a new weekly post featuring the three best dressed students on campus spotted by our fashion writer. Keep your eyes open for a reporter and photographer walking around because you might be chosen as the latest trendsetter. This post was written by Hatchet reporters Christian Ewing and Sara Murali.

Anahita Nakhjiri, freshman, economics and public policy major-

Classic, versatile and boho chic are a few ways this charismatic freshman, who turns to icon Jennifer Aniston and Vanessa Hudgens for fashion inspiration, describes her personal style. But a smattering of words and a snapshot of Anahita’s classy yet contemporary look can’t capture the power of her personality, which we believe added to her overall persona. For Anahita, “Style is a reflection of how you view yourself, but it can also show your independence and make a great first impression.” Anahita practiced what she preached today by speaking as smartly as she dressed, which is the ultimate in fine style.

Where to find it: Her boots and coat are from Nordstrom and skirt, tights and blazer are from Urban Outfitters.

Olivia Cali, sophomore, speech and hearing major-

If you passed Olivia on the street in her bright red, fur-lined coat you’d undoubtedly be tempted to do a double take. If you did, you may have noticed how she wove her teal headband into her braid or maybe you would take note of her fabulous lace-up boots. However, getting the opportunity to talk with Olivia, we discovered that she is actually more introverted then her vibrant outerwear may suggest. Olivia simply stated that her style is determined by “whatever’s around.” A friend of hers, Seema Agrawal, described Olivia’s style as “freaky, dirty, grungy,” but did so in a loving way. People like Olivia keep style fresh. While dressing cute often becomes a contrived obsession, she demonstrates the beauty of just not giving a damn.

Where to find it: All of Olivia’s clothing is from her own basement and other unknown origins.

Devin Foil, junior, asian studies major-

Interrupted from his lunch to talk with The Hatchet’s Fashionista of the Week team, Devin was nothing but cordial, genuine, and fun to talk to. The first element of note in his style was his choice to cuff his jeans over casual sneakers. Paying attention to tiny details like this, as opposed to donning an extraordinary accessory, is enough to make even simple looks appear polished and put-together.

“I think people can care too much about style,” Devin admits, “But it’s good to care about how you look, and it goes a long way in making a good first impression.”

Devin describes his style as “dressy fun.” Who could argue with that?

Where to find it: His shirt is from Banana Republic, jeans are from Nordstrom and his jacket is borrowed from his roommate—though our guess is American Apparel.
