The Pita Pit is a staple on GW’s campus, but now there’s a fresh, tasty alternative. The Perfect Pita’s newest location, which opened this week, offers a diverse menu and is a nice option for an affordable lunch on the go.
The shop is a tiny store front in The Shops at 2000 Penn, adding to an already varied selection of restaurants. Although they have a huge menu, complete with salads, sandwiches, pizzas and breakfast options, their falafel is one of the highlights. It’s crunchy and flavorful, and the pita surrounding it is warm; the tzatziki sauce is served on the side and is a nice dipping addition.
If fried chickpeas aren’t to your liking, The Perfect Pita’s Zorba salad – a classic Greek salad – is a nice choice as well. For a more authentic Mediterranean lunch, they also carry homemade hummus, Greek yogurt, baklava and dolmas.
With no room for seating, this is definitely a takeout place. Get some falafel and head over to one of the benches in the indoor plaza, and try not to talk yourself into getting Coney for dessert just because you had a healthy lunch.
The Perfect Pita is located in 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. and is open 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m-6 p.m. Saturday, and is closed Sunday. 202-293-PITA
