In a letter sent to season ticket holders and posted online this week, Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz gave an early glimpse into next season’s men’s basketball schedule.
The first highlight of the announcement is GW’s participation in the NIT Season Tip-Off in November. The Colonials will be playing in a grouping that includes Villanova, Boston University, and Marist in the first round Nov. 15-17. Consolation rounds will be played Nov. 22 and 23 and the tournament will conclude with the semifinals and finals at Madison Square Garden in New York Nov. 24 and 26, Thanksgiving weekend. Sites for the other rounds of games have yet to be announced.
Seven other games were announced, all rematches of games from this season. Dates and times have yet to be finalized, but the opponents in those games are listed below.
Home games:
- UNC-Wilmington
- Holy Cross
- East Carolina
- Towson
Away games:
- Oregon State
- George Mason
- Howard
GW went 6-1 against those opponents this season, with the lone loss coming at home against Oregon State.
The letter also said that the Colonials will likely play Navy again in next season’s BB&T Classic event at the Verizon Center.
There has been speculation that GW might play an additional game on its trip to play Oregon State, but in a phone interview today Kvancz said that he is not sure it would be possible given the team’s involvement in the NIT event around the same time.
“If we can, we’d like to do that,” he said, before adding that “nothing is in the works.”
