Updated 8:01 p.m. GWorld service has been restored, said Ed Schonfeld, senior associate vice president for administration. Schonfeld said a GW server also contributed to the outage.
Original Post. Students are unable to use their GWorld cards at off-campus vending locations, a University official said Monday evening.
A down server at BbOne, the company that manages the University’s GWorld program, has caused an outage for all off-campus vendors, making them unable to process purchases, Schonfeld said.
Students do have access to buildings and residential halls, can purchase foods from Sodexo-run locations – J Street, Ames and GDub Java – and can print at Eckles and Gelman libraries. They cannot, however, use their GWorlds at any off-campus locations, including vendors like Starbucks and GW Deli that are located on campus but are considered off-campus dining spots.
Schonfeld said BbOne is currently moving the GWorld program to a back-up server and students should have full use of their GWorlds later tonight.
“The server that controls GWorld operations is down so GWorld is moving to a back-up server. While it is moving to a back-up server certain GWorld functions don’t operate,” Schonfeld said.
Schonfeld said the problems started around 3:30 p.m. but outage issues were reported as early as 2 p.m.
Students are also currently not able to make online purchases with the GWorld readers down, because vendors have to enter GWorld information manually on card readers for Web purchases.
“The merchant is entering information into the GWorld reader in the same way as if someone was coming into their location and using the reader,” Schonfeld said.
