Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity suspended for alleged hazing

The Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity is currently under interim suspension for alleged hazing, a University administrator confirmed Monday.

Tara Pereira, assistant dean of students and director of Student Judicial Services, said the University is in the process of conducting an investigation into the alleged hazing.

“The chapter’s recognition is currently suspended on an interim basis, pending the outcome of the investigation,” Pereira said in an e-mail.

Phi Psi President Jack Bermingham declined to comment on the matter, instead directing questions to Phi Psi’s Executive Director Sean Collinsworth.

Collinsworth said Phi Psi’s national headquarters already conducted their own separate investigation into the hazing allegations and “found no evidence to prove there was hazing.”

Collinsworth – who said that the Phi Psi organization investigates all hazing allegations on a case by case basis – said GW’s Phi Psi chapter is recognized by Phi Psi’s national headquarters.

He said if GW finds any evidence of hazing, the national headquarters will “look at info they have and go forward from there.”
