Senior Megan Hogan finished 27th among the 255 runners in this afternoon’s NCAA women’s cross country championships in Terra Haute, Ind. to earn All-America honors after finishing the six-kilometer race in a time of 20:34.8.
The time was a 36-second improvement from last year’s 96th-place showing. Last fall Hogan, who only started running competitively after transferring to GW two years ago, was the first-ever GW runner to qualify for the NCAA championships and on Oct. 31 was the first in school history to win the Atlantic 10 championship. Today she became the first-ever Colonials runner to qualify as an All-American.
According to the GW Sports account, Hogan was tripped at one point and as a result slipped from 15th place to 60th before recovering and re-gaining much of the lost ground. The race was broadcast live on Versus and also streamed online.
Illinois senior Angela Bizzarri was the race’s surprise winner with a time of 19:46.8.
