The GW men’s rowing team finished their season strong on the other side of the country last weekend, finishing 15th in the IRA National Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
The event, which took place June 4 through June 6, featured races by four GW crews: the varsity eight, second varsity eight, freshman eight and the open four, which featured three freshmen and a sophomore.
The varsity eight finished third in the third-level final, placing it 15th overall. The second varsity eight reached the petite final, where it finished fifth of six teams. The freshman eight finished sixth in their third-level final, while the open four placed fourth out of four in its petite final.
GW’s improvement of 47 points from last season’s total placed it third for the Chapman Award, which is given to the team that most upgraded its performance from the previous year’s championships. The Colonials placed 20th at last June’s event.
