A GW professor and graduate student got involved with the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll earlier this week, turning the light-hearted event into an educational opportunity as well.
Biology Professor Ken Brown and Ph.D. student Kamali Carroll demonstrated live frog, fish, and sea urchin embryos to young children at the egg-themed event Monday afternoon. The kids were able to view the animal eggs using microscopes, Brown said.
“For a lot of these kids, all it takes is one or two experiences with something where they go ‘wow, that’s neat,’ to get them into science,” he said.
Brown and Carroll participated in conjunction with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, which the White House invited to make the event more science-themed, Brown said.
