An incident at the Foggy Bottom Metro stop Thursday afternoon has left the station with just one available escalator – and the problems getting into the station might continue through the weekend, according to the organization’s Web site.
Lines outside the station extended more than 50 feet out around 5 p.m. Thursday. Two escalators were blocked off, and the remaining escalator remained stationary with two single file lines of passengers going up and down.
One escalator had previously been out of service for regular maintenance, but a malfunction today caused the second escalator to go down. Though the Web site states that the second escalator is expected to be back in service by April 5, a Metro spokesman said the organization hopes to have the problem fixed by tomorrow.
“Mechanics are looking at some escalator steps that are malfunctioning,” Metro spokesman Steven Taubenkiel said. “It will hopefully be back in service tomorrow.”
