The annual Cherry Blossom season is underway in the District, bringing a sudden increase in fanny packs and crowded Metro service.
While the entire blooming period technically began on March 28 and lasts through April 11, this year’s peak bloom period is April 1 to April 4.
The roughly 4,000 legendary trees were a gift from the Japanese in 1912. A complete list of the festival’s activities can be found here.
