The Mae-Shi -These dudes are burnt out. Members are just leaving the stage mid-set. This, however, remains rock and roll.
The Thermals – They’re good.
The Hold Steady – The following collection of letters is to count as one word: OHMYGODTHEYARESOGOODANDFUNANDTHEYHAVEWAILINGGUITARSOLOSANDCRAIGFINNTREATSHISGUITARLIKEANACCESSORYANDINSTEADCHOOSETODRAMATICALLYACTOUTHISSONGS.
FliP – I would absolutely write them off as generic rock if they weren’t Japanese. Plus, her scream is pure.
School Of Seven Bells – It’s like the dueling banjos of ethereal harmonies.
De Los Muertos – They sound like the band that would be playing during the descent into hell, in a mid ’90s movie. When a character drops acid.
Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit – I refuse to believe that people actually, actively like this music. It’s fine. Totally. But there is nothing in it that inspires passion.
White Denim – Dance rock.
Cursive – Tim Kasher: I take what I said in this review back. I was wrong. Your band is awesome. Your lyrics are awesome.
