Only two days into the Student Association election period and 40 campaign violation complaints have been filed with the Joint Elections Committee – the committee that oversees that SA elections are free and fair.
Complaints can be filed against candidates who break rules outlined in the JEC Charter. Some of these rules include posting campaign materials before the campaign period begins, unsolicited communications-like inviting students to Facebook groups-and utilizing campaign materials not approved by the JEC.
A candidate can only receive a violation if a complaint is filed and ruled valid by the JEC committee. Once a candidate receives six violation points they are eliminated from the race.
These 40 complaints will be heard to determine probable cause at the JEC meeting Friday night.
