Student Association Sen. Louis Laverone, ESIA-U and chair of the Academic Affairs Committee, announced his run for executive vice president Monday afternoon in Columbian Square.
Laverone, a junior, said he is running for EVP in order to gain access to higher level administrators to push through initiatives that he couldn’t get far on this year.
He said he has been lobbying for a student owned and operated business, and an open registration period where students would be able to attend classes they wish to register for before the registration period opens.
“The trouble is, I haven’t actually been able to get very far in my position with these initiatives because I simply don’t have the access to administrators like President Knapp or Robert Chernak, but the executive vice president does,” Laverone said. “Ultimately though, its not so much about what I think the University needs, but what other people need. Its really more because I think I can be a direct conduit between the administration and the student body.”
Registration for SA candidates began Monday morning. The elections will take place Feb. 25 and 26.
