Thinking forward to the coming semester, it is hard to imagine anything post-inauguration 2009. However, once the tour buses pull away and the bars are back to their regular liquor hours, GW students have one more small treat to look forward to – the PostSecret event happening at Lisner Auditorium on Jan. 23.
If you haven’t heard of PostSecret yet, you’re missing out. In a nutshell, it is an ongoing project founded by Frank Warren, where strangers mail him their secrets on all sorts of postcards. He posts 20 or so secrets online every Sunday, and has also put together four books full of secrets. The secrets range from dark and deep to silly and lighthearted, but the most inspiring thing is that strangers are willing to share these hidden parts of themselves with thousands of people they’ve never meet.
Program Broad, congratulations on putting together an event that is both fun and meaningful. Hearing Warren speak is the kind of programming that can truly foster community (as the more than two hundred million PostSecret blog hits show) without feeling forced or awkward. Let’s keep this up throughout the coming months.
