There has been some chatter lately regarding the academic standing of incoming men’s basketball recruit David Pellom. Pellom is currently attending Charis Prep, a North Carolina prep school founded a few years ago that is not currently accredited by the NCAA.
Now a few things to be made clear. One is that Pellom, according to Charis headmaster Carlos Peralta in October, has already graduated high school and is currently doing a post-graduate year. Peralta said most students at Charis are in the same boat and that Pellom should not have any problems being academically cleared to participate at GW next fall. He said that Pellom graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, N.C. at the end of the last school year.
The other matter to note is that Peralta said in that same October interview that Charis has appealed the ruling. A representative from the NCAA was unable to locate the filing of said appeal during a phone call today, saying that the last information from Charis on file was from August when their eligibility was declined.
