Bill Gates will deliver an invitation-only speech on U.S. education and global health and poverty in the Marvin Center on Wednesday morning, according to a University spokeswoman.
The Microsoft co-founder will speak in the Marvin Center’s Betts Theatre at 9:30 a.m. on behalf of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, spokeswoman Tracy Schario confirmed.
Schario said the 18 students attending GW through a Gates Millennium Scholarship have been invited, as well as faculty members who have received funding from the foundation.
“We were able to negotiate opportunities for some students and faculty,” Schario said. “But it’s a outside rental and, unfortunately, a fairly small venue.”
University President Steven Knapp will introduce Gates. A Q-and-A session following Gates’ speech will be moderated by Frank Senso, a GW professor and CNN special correspondent.
Founded in 1994, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which Gates co-chairs with his wife and father, is the world’s largest philanthropic organization.
