TYSONS CORNER, Va. – After being introduced by both Gov. Tim Kaine and Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner accepted his seat in the Senate at the McLean Tysons Corner Hilton Hotel about an hour ago.
The crowd of more than 700 supporters cheered “yes, we can” as Warner pinpointed his goals for the upcoming administration. He acknowledged a need for the new Congress to address energy, bipartisanship and the economy.
“We dug Virginia out of a ditch,” Warner said. “We can do the same thing and make America the most competitive nation in the world – if we do it together.”
The enthusiastic constituents were optimistic about Warner’s election.
“He knows this state, he knows the people, he knows how to compromise,” said Virginia resident Richard Dick. “Now, he will be a great leader in the U.S. Senate. He is what Washington needs.”
