Screaming students filled the hallways of Thurston Hall – some were running, some had skateboards and others had scooters.
Freshman Elliot Yupin said he used a scooter as a way to attend as many Thurston parties as possible.
“It’s Thurston, and it’s election night. It’s the place to be. It’s better than any weekend party at Thurston,” Yupin said. “I have so many places to be in Thurston that I need to be on my scooter right now.”
Throughout Thurston, several of the freshman residents were excited about the results.
“We are so pumped about America,” freshman Adam Drucker said. “We’ve been saluting the flag for hours.”
Freshman Evan Perkins was also excited.
“We have been calculating this for months. As soon as Obama wins, we are going to storm the White House and yell at George Bush,” said Perkins, who also planned to run to the Lincoln Memorial. “We are getting pumped. I’m so excited to be living four blocks away from the president I voted for.”
Others were not so excited about the election.
“I’m probably the only guy that doesn’t care about the election at this point,” said freshman Brad Canales, who is from the swing state of Nevada.
When CNN projected that Obama would be the next president, the hallways, elevator and stairwells became jammed with students that dashed for the White House. Some students yelled, “Thank God” about the election results, while others yelled, “God help me.”
