The atmosphere at the VIP reception for the Republican National Committee is optimistic.
Drinks are flowing from eight bars while the cover band – dressed in black shirts and American flag ties – is playing a variety of upbeat rock songs. The buffets are decadent and there is an abundance of tuxedoed hors d’oeuvres servers.
Dozens of young professionals in dark suits are huddled around dozens of televisions – many of which are tuned into Fox News – eagerly awaiting the results.
Danny Vargas, chairman of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly, said he is keeping an eye on Florida, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada and Virginia, all of which he believes are going to be pivotal states.
