Welcome to The Forum, The Hatchet’s Opinions blog!
As readers of The Hatchet know, the Opinions page in the paper is usually just that – one page or a bit more on the way to the Sudoku. With seven members of editorial board, a score of writers and cartoonists and a lot going on at GW and in the world, however, there are usually more opinions going around than there is room for in the twice-weekly print edition.
Hence, The Forum. We’re expanding into the blogosphere.
We’re hoping that this will become a place for readers to post comments about columns in the print edition, whether you think they’re inflammatory, spot-on, weird, intriguing, whatever. We know you’re thinking it or saying it to your friend (“Dude, that editorial is totally bogus” / “Wow, I totally agree and am so glad someone said it”), so why not post a comment?
It will be the place where the editorial board will post to shed more light on the process behind the unsigned staff editorial (we promise it involves more than hanging out in the editor in chief’s office with a dart board, Voodoo dolls and libations).
We’ll also be rounding up and posting interesting opinion pieces – and news articles with editorial angles – from college and national papers. Some of our writers will be getting in the game too, posting thoughts that never grew into columns or couldn’t find space on the Opinions page.
So check back often to see what’s new at The Forum. Remember – nothing clears the mind and solves Sudoku quandaries like taking a break to write a letter to the editor or comment on the blog.
