Fall Fest will be in the Smith Center this Saturday due to the possibility of heavy rain and strong winds from Hurricane Hanna, Program Board officials said Wednesday night.
Alert DC, an emergency warning system for the District, notified residents that Hurricane Hanna, which is over the Atlantic Ocean and expected to make landfall near the Carolinas on Friday night, is predicted to hit the city on Saturday with high winds and torrential rain.
“We tried our hardest to try to keep it outside,” said PB Chair Tiffany Meehan. “We were trying different things.”
She added, “There is a hurricane coming. It is not like there are light showers.”
This is the first time in five years that the annual welcome-back celebration will be held indoors. The festival is set to include co-headliners Virginia Coalition and The Canon Logic along with several other activities like jousting, a tug-of-war and T-shirt making.
