Updated June 8, 1:16 p.m. | Women’s head basketball coach Joe McKeown, the winningest coach in GW and women’s Atlantic 10 basketball history, has taken the same position at Northwestern University after 19 years in Foggy Bottom, Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz said Sunday afternoon.

McKeown called Kvancz Sunday morning to confirm that he had taken the job, a move that had been heavily rumored since Friday. Kvancz said he will begin the search for a new coach tonight and hopes to finish it as soon as possible to limit disruption to the team’s 2008-2009 season.
