Kim Beck put together a pretty good showing in the Seattle Storm’s final preseason game against Indiana last night. Beck played 23 minutes and dished out a team-high five assists while committing one turnover. Right now, it looks like she’s one of five players battling for two Storm roster spots.
Tanisha Wright started at the point for the Storm and put together a solid line as well, scoring 13 points with four rebounds and four assists. Wright, though, has been with the team for three years and very well could have the backup point guard slot already locked up. Beck then has to deal with Kristen O’Neill, (who could be a local favorite, as she just graduated from the University of Washington) Daphanie Kennedy, and twins Roneeka and Doneeka Hodges. Beck’s five assists certainly outplayed those other four against Indiana.
Head coach Brian Agler wasn’t too forthcoming with his assessments after the game, but said Beck “made some good decisions” in the second half. The postgame audio is here.
As for GW alum O’Connor, Nationals’ manager Manny Acta said he doesn’t make decisions like removing a player from the rotation so quickly after a game, and made it seem like O’Connoor would get another shot at a starting role. His assesment of O’Connor’s was anything but positive, though, and said O’Connor had “very poor control” and couldn’t throw any of his pitches for strikes.
