Update, 6:25 p.m. — Just spoke with Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz who confirmed that there’s been no new development today with the Hobbs/Providence situation.
“Absolutely not. I haven’t heard from anyone at Providence,” he said via phone. “No one’s ever called me, and to my knowledge, no one’s ever called Coach (Hobbs.)”
Kvancz did say that if Providence were interested in an interview with Hobbs, he would give permission for the interview to occur. “I’ve never withheld permission from any coach to talk to anybody else,” he said.

Today’s article on the possibility of head men’s basketball coach Karl Hobbs filling the coaching vacancy at Providence College didn’t have comment from the seven-year coach, but The Hatchet was able to grab a few moments with Hobbs this afternoon.
Hobbs seemed pretty clear on the situation:
“There’s no development. I’m not a candidate for the job. I haven’t been contacted by the job. I’m very happy here at GW,” Hobbs said via phone.
The job in question opened up a month ago when coach Tim Welsh was fired after a 15-16 season. George Mason’s Jim Larranaga and Massachusetts’ Travis Ford have both already turned down the job.
