Beck an All-American finalist; Mrowka gets 100th win at GW

A couple of newsworthy tidbits have came across the Hatchet sports desk today, and while we’re full on content with Women’s basketball coverage tomorrow, we thought we’d share them here:

Women’s basketball senior Kim Beck has been named a finalist for the 2008 State Farm Coaches’ All-America Basketball Team. If chosen, she’ll be be the third Colonial all time to win the award from State Farm. She’d also join Tajama Abraham and Darlene Saar as the only two Colonials to get All-American honors more than once. Beck was part of the Associated Press’ honorable mention All-American team last year.

Also, GW baseball head coach Steve Mrowka earned his 100th win at GW yesterday with the Colonials’ 11-5 victory over Towson. In doing so, he became the sixth coach in school history to hit that mark. Earlier this year, Mrowka grabbed his 500th career win; he coached Georgia College and State University for 11 years before coming to GW four years ago.
