Update, 9:32 p.m…..Two free throws by Wilmore put the Colonials up 85-68, which will end up being the final score here tonight. Wilmore finishes with 23 while Hollis had 22. A truly dominant performance by GW. See gwhatchet.com tomorrow for a full recap.

Update, 8:54 pm….Rhode Island has made a couple plays in the second half but not enough to make a huge dent in the Colonials’ lead, which is currently at 17. Hollis has 19 points and Wilmore 18.

Update, 8:27 p.m….This is a new team. Colonials lead 49-25 at the half behind Wilmore’s 15 points, all on three-pointers. Sophomore Damian Hollis has 14. They’ve been playing with a kind of energy that is more similar to teams of the past few seasons than the team that has played the other 22 games this season. Atlantic City (host of the A-10 tournament) is starting to look like a real possibility.

Update, 8:16 p.m….Junior Noel Wilmore just hit his second three-pointer of the night to give the Colonials a 33-21 edge. Other than the first few minutes, things have been going pretty well for them. They’ve hit some long shots while Rhode Island has not.

Update, 7:42 p.m….Colonials up 3-0 as both teams struggle to find the hoop. In other news, freshman Miles Beatty, who has been suspended indefinitely after breaking an unspecified team rule, is here in street clothes, sitting in the upper right hand corner of the student section. I just went to talk to him and found out a bit more about what’s going on with him and his role on the team. I don’t want what he said to get caught in the middle of the posts about the game, so please check back again after the game for what Miles told me.

The Colonials (8-14, 4-8 Atlantic 10) host the Rams (20-8, 6-7 A-10). GW has won two games in a row while URI has been in a free fall, losing four straight and five of its last six. That’s even more incredible considering the Rams were ranked in the top 25 from Dec. 24 to Jan. 13. They had just dropped out of the polls when the Colonials played them in Kingston, R.I. Jan. 23. In that game, URI came away with an 81-70 win.
Rhode Island’s Joe Mbang and Jason Francis are in warmups on the bench. They both played important roles in their team’s win last month.
The Colonials are once again wearing the buff jerseys tonight. Perhaps this is turning into a little bit of a superstitious trend. They haven’t lost wearing the alternative unis since the Auburn defeat in early December.
