As I had mentioned in the blog post below this one on the men’s team’s game against Rhode Island, I spoke with freshman Miles Beatty early in the first half about his role on the squad. He wouldn’t tell me exactly why he is serving a suspension but when I asked him in more broad terms about why he isn’t playing, he said, “A lot of reasons.” He also added that coach Karl Hobbs hasn’t given him a timeline as to when he might return. Sports Information Director Brad Bower said last weekend that Beatty is suspended indefinitely for breaking an unspecified team rule.
There have also been some rumors flying around that Beatty might transfer at the end of the season. He said he hasn’t decided yet but that he hasn’t put his name out for other schools to know that he is interested in leaving GW. Because of this, he said, no other schools have contacted him about transferring.
The New Jersey native was also quick to say that he’s very happy at GW and happy being a member of the men’s program but that he isn’t happy with how the season is going. He said he fell in love with the program when he was first recruited and he’s close with his teammates. He said he’s, “trying my best to have it work out here.”
