The Board of Trustees approved an increase in the student fee from $1.00 to $1.50 per credit hour at its meeting Friday.
“The demand (for more money for organizations) far outstretches the supply by a three-to-one ratio and, the university has agreed to match the student fee,” Student Association President Nicole Capp said.
The student fee has not been changed since 1992. The Board’s student affairs committee approved the legislation without discussion.
Capp suggested that the board continue to consider the student fee.
“We will be experiencing the same problem in five years, 10 years and 20 years due to the economy,” Capp said. “We will see the same problems if it is not indexed.”
The Board also approved a resolution that provides a semester of paid leave for faculty members who are new parents. Previously, professors received four weeks of paid disability leave and 12 weeks of unpaid maternity leave under the 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act.
