Update, 4:16 p.m…And the Colonials take this one, 78-51, behind Jessica Adair’s 27 points and Kim Beck’s 18 points. Junior Antelia Parrish also added 12 points and senior Sarah-Jo Lawrence 10 points. Xavier defeated Temple yesterday afternoon, and so the Colonials are now at the top of the conference, tied in record with the Musketeers but with the edge because they defeated X earlier in the season. GW next travels to Amherst, Mass., to face UMass.

Update, 3:11 p.m….Just finished watching the well-done video commemorating McKeown’s 500th win. Highlights included appearances from North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell, who said she knew McKeown “when his hair was a different color,” Texas A&M’s Gary Blair, who said McKeown was the most underrated coach in the country, and Dick Vitale, who said McKeown was “Awesome with a capital A,” and had “hall of fame status, baby.”

Update, 2:41 p.m….GW is ahead 27-13 now, with just under four minutes left in the first half. Jessica Adair now leads in scoring with eight points, while Sarah-Jo Lawrence has almost half (6) of the Colonials’ 13 rebounds. Off the court, this crowd has got to be one of the biggest in recent history at Smith Center when the women’s team hasn’t been playing a top opponent. The fans have been fairly vocal, too.

Update, 1:56 p.m…I just chatted with Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz about what he has planned for Coach McKeown. He said there’s a basic ceremony before the game begins in a couple minutes but that at halftime there will be a five- or six-minute video montage congratulating the coach. On there: ESPN announcer Dick Vitale, as well as a bunch of other former and current coaches.

The No. 14/13 Colonials (18-4, 6-1 Atlantic 10) host the Spiders (11-11, 4-3 A-10). The Colonials have had more than a week off since defeating Duquesne 73-65 to give coach Joe McKeown his 500th career victory. There will be a ceremony for Coach Joe before and during halftime of today’s game. It is also think pink day, a nation-wide event to draw awareness to breast cancer research. Both teams have pink shoelaces on while the Colonials are wearing pink Nike t-shirts that have the breast cancer emblem on them.
