The softball team lost both of its games at the Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina this afternoon. The Colonials dropped 1-0 and 21-5 decisions to Kent State and the University of North Carolina, respectively. Sophomore Amanda Gabriel was solid from the mound in the first game but could not get any run support. Opposing her was Kent State’s Kylie Reynolds, who was the 2007 Pitcher of the Year and also 2007 Player of the Year in the Mid-American Conference. GW continues its play in the Carolina Classic tomorrow afternoon when it faces North Carolina Central and East Carolina.
Sports Information Director Brad Bower has informed me that forward Jabari Edwards has some torn cartilage in his right knee, which has been keeping the freshman sidelined. Edwards has seen the court twice this season and not since a Dec. 5 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore. Bower said the Brooklyn, N.y., native is considered a game-to-game decision but that it is most likely that he will not play the rest of the season and will apply for a medical redshirt at the end of the year. Edwards has been on the sidelines for the past couple of homes games in warm-ups but not dressed to play.
