Senior Matt Davis was taken as the fifth pick in the fifth round of the Major Indoor Soccer League’s amateur draft by the Baltimore Blast, the athletic department announced yesterday.

Two and a half years ago, when I was a new freshman reporter, I was assigned to cover the men’s soccer beat. I spent almost three months going to every home game and keeping track of the Colonials wherever they were, and that included following Davis’ field activity. He was definitely one of the stars of the defense (he was a sophomore at the time and a consistent starter) and continued to be so all the way through his senior season. Very few GW athletes end up playing post-graduation, so it’s great to see Matt continuing down that path.
