Update, 9:01 p.m. – And with the final buzzer, the Colonials take home an 81-73 victory. Senior Kim Beck led GW with 18 points while junior Jessica Adair had 17 points and junior Antelia Parrish and senior Sarah-Jo Lawrence both had 15 points. Coach Joe McKeown is now just one win away from 500 career wins. It could come at Duquesne, where the Colonials will play Feb. 2. See gwhatchet.com for a full recap of tonight’s game.
Update, 8:46 p.m. – With five minutes remaining, the Flyers have made it a game again, trailing by just three, 68-65. They’ve hit a couple big threes while the Colonials have had trouble converting on offense.
Update, 8:20 p.m. – Five and a half minutes into the second half and GW has begun to blow the game open, now leading by 13, 54-41. After scoring five points in the first half, Beck now has 13 after hitting a very awkward jumper and then two three-pointers. In the same period, she also has a block and a steal.
Update, 8:00 p.m. – The Colonials lead 40-27 at the half but it has not been an easy 20 minutes of basketball for them. The Flyers are very good shooters and are also playing pretty strong defense. Junior Jazmine Adair received a technical after knocking over a Dayton player after a play was finished. In other news, former University President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg is making an appearance in Smith Center tonight.
The No. 16/17 (AP, ESPN/USA Today) Colonials welcome the Flyers to the Smith Center tonight. GW (16-4, 4-1 Atlantic 10) have never lost to Dayton (17-4, 3-2 A-10) in 22 meetings. The Flyers are have a very good season after years of being a middle-of-the-pack team. But after the way the Colonials handled Charlotte Jan. 26 (a 76-54 victory), Dayton will really have to be at the top of its game if the Colonials play the same way they did against the 49ers.
