While the Hatchet’s new sports blog is called “Courtside” and implies a basketball theme, it will also be a great place to find news and analysis on any other of GW’s 22 sports. So without further ado, here’s what the gymnastics and swimming squads have been up to:
The GW gymnastics squad took third place in West Virginia this weekend, putting together a score of 192.050. The Colonials’ top performances came in the floor exercise, where Carolyn Marckesano earned a 9.800 to lead GW.
Freshman Leslie Delima led the Colonials overall for the second straight event, and placed third for all competitors in that category. Senior Gillian Coleman finished fifth in the all-around.

Four swimmers grabbed individual wins this weekend, but the GW men’s swimming team fell to Army in its last home meet of the season. Junior David Zenk won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke, while sophomore Rick Rogers
and freshman Konrad Kopczynski were fastest in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle, respectively.
GW has one more regular-season meet with George Mason on Feb. 2 before the Atlantic 10 Championships Feb. 20-23.
