Brad Bower informed me that senior Maureece Rice has been suspended for today’s game because he broke a “team rule.” He said the suspension came from Hobbs directly.
No word yet on the specific rule broken. This is the second time this season that Rice has been suspended for breaking a team rule. The first was at UMBC on Nov. 24 — where the Colonials lost by 10 points.
Rice currently ranks third for points scored this year, behind junior Rob Diggs and Wynton Witherspoon. The last time the Colonials played Longwood, Rice was the lead scorer with 23 points.
Update: 1:55
Rice is wearing warmups sitting on the bench. Several minutes ago he had a brief conversation with coach Hobbs.
Update: 2:50
After spending most of the first half trailing by 11, the Colonials picked it up with several minutes to go — now behind by 4. Score at the half is 26-30 Longwood. Cheyenne Moore an Miles Beatty lead in points scored.
Update: 5:40
Powering through the second half, the Colonials have emerged with a win. Final score: 63-54. Check the main site in a little bit for a full game article and Hobbs’ post-game comments on Rice.
