A car fleeing the scene of an armed robbery crashed across the street from Mitchell Hall Saturday night, according to police reports.
The vehicle, a white Ford Thunderbird, ran over two parking meters and snapped a small tree in half before crashing into several planters owned by the General Services Administration, a government agency, a police report states. The GSA is located on 19th and F streets across from Mitchell Hall.
MPD officers arrested two individuals following the crash, according to a police e-mail sent to community members Saturday night. The two allegedly “used force and violence” while committing separate robberies, then fled in the car while being chased by police, the e-mail stated. They were charged with two counts of robbery.
University Police Department Chief Dolores Stafford said UPD did not respond to the incident and had no further information. Police reports state that the car was last seen during the chase at 19th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Fifteen minutes later, responding officers found it farther down 19th Street near GW’s campus.
