GW’s men’s basketball team is “90 percent likely” to play at UCLA this season, Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz said Monday.
The game would be in place of a return game against Providence College, he said. A contract is not done yet, but Kvancz believes it will be done soon.
Kvancz also confirmed that GW will be headed to the University of Alabama in late December and is “99.9% likely” to play Auburn in the BB&T Classic.
With a game against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg already confirmed, this schedule represents a change of approach for the Colonials, who have traditionally scheduled weak out of conference opponents at home. GW’s inability to schedule good teams at home due to its small arena and the new Atlantic 10 policy preventing members from playing teams with a low RPI has forced Kvancz to put together a schedule heavy in away games.
Kvancz said he is happy with the schedule so far, although it is still a little early in the process. He does not like having to play a team like UCLA on the road, but admits that it is “good for our RPI.”
Stick with the Hatchet for more schedule and recruiting updates soon.
