The Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority hosted the 11th annual Black Male Appreciation Dinner earlier this week at Marvin Center with about 90 students and administrators.
The dinner, which is part of the community-service based AKA Month, honored Student Association President Lamar Thorpe, GW NAACP president James Walker and alumnus Antwayne Ford.
“The chapter chose these three men because each of them has made significant impacts on the GW community,” said Alpha Kappa Alpha president Titi Williams-Davies. “(They) have made their commitment to service clear.”
The sorority honored Thorpe and Walker for their campus involvement. Ford, an alumnus and chief executive officer of the technology firm Enlightened, Inc., received recognition for his outstanding post-graduate success.
The sorority sponsored a barbecue and bazaar Saturday to start its month of service. About 200 people attended, including students and Greek-letter group members from American and Georgetown universities.
