Boardwalk Hall is empty but from what I hear, it won’t be soon. Wow, that was obvious. But in all honesty, I’ve gotten some calls saying that droves of GW fans will be making the trip to Atlantic City for the Atlantic 10 championship game today. This building is a cool place to see a college basketball game. The Rams against GW should be an interesting matchup. Rhode Island hasn’t been in the NCAA tournament since 1999 and lost to Charlotte 81-70 in overtime in Milwaukee. The year before, the Rams advanced to the Elite Eight before losing to Stanford in St. Louis. The question of the day: how many three pointers will Jimmy Baron drain. Karl Hobbs said if he has six, the Colonials will have a “long bus ride home.”
An interesting thing about this game is Rhode Island and GW are in similar positions. It’s unlikely that either team will earn an at-large bid and thus need a victory today to see NCAA play. Neither teams were expected to be here today. When the Colonials visited Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I., it put GW in first place in the A-10. It was on a five-game winning streak and came right before losing two straight against Dayton and St. Louis.
We’ll keep you posted with happenings here. It’s quiet now but I expect Buff and Blue madness within a few hours.
