Hermann Opoku, a freshman on the GW men’s basketball game, is suspended for the first 11 games of the season, Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz told The Hatchet. Opoku played on a team in Austria that may have included paid players, Kvancz said, but after a five-month investigation, GW is convinced Opoku was not paid. The 11-game suspension was made in consultation with the NCAA and is the maximum penalty that Opoku could have incurred in this situation.
“By taking the maximum amount of games, we have taken the high road,” Kvancz told The Hatchet Friday afternoon.
