I knew these questions would begin to surface. In an email, and on GWHoops.com, people have questioned the Hatchet’s editorial independence on the heels of this magazine. First off, let me be perfectly crystal clear in saying I had no dealings with the business end of the publication. The deal was brokered by Michael Barnett, last year’s editor and president of Hatchet Publications. The deal was not brokered with GW athletics. Jack Kvancz didn’t even know about the magazine when I mentioned it to him in conversation during the NCAA tournament.
After the deal was brokered, I sat down with University officials and we agreed that there would be no editorial oversight. The Hatchet produced the magazine and, literally, handed a disk to the University and it was printed.
This is the beginning of even more coverage of the basketball team. If you look up www.gwbasketball.com, you will see that the domain name is owned by The Hatchet. We have been working on a site for over a year complete with everything one needs for GW basketball. We are looking for contributors and staff for the site. Let me know if you want in! My email is [email protected].
Enjoy.
