The GW golf team made it to its first NCAA Tournament since the 1940s as an at-large bid following their impressive season and fifth-place finish at the A-10 championship in Florida. There will be a full story in Monday’s paper. Got a chance to spend some time with GW grad Mike O’Connor for a story Monday’s paper. Very nice guy and I hope people take the time to read it.
If you look to the top of the page, a new name has joined the Hatchet Blog. Joanna Shapes, who covered the men’s soccer team in the fall and the women’s basketball team in the winter, will become assistant sports editor effective immediately. After three years at The Hatchet and one as the top sports columnist, Will Dempster will be moving to Israel to attend graduate school. Will’s insight has been great and I’m sure many in the GW basketball community learned from his blogging. Joanna brings a lot to the table and will help the sports section grow to new heights.
This summer The Hatchet sports department doesn’t rest. Similar to last summer, we will bring you news on Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Mike Hall, Danilo (J.R.) Pinnock and Carl Elliott in the NBA Draft.
As always, feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns about coverage or anything sports related. If you have an idea, complaint or just have a question you’d like answered about the way we do things, e-mail me at [email protected]. I answer e-mails often, probably too often.
